At Northern Stage, our Talent Development programme is one of the ways we support artists and theatre makers and bring you in close. In the past that support has been focused on sector development, supporting actors to develop new skills, companies to take the next step and creatives to find each other. But, in the wake of COVID-19, we know so many of you have lost work, been excluded from government funding and are left questioning an uncertain future within the sector. We know you’re concerned about access, well-being, pay, sustainability, inclusion and representation. As we emerge from these challenging times, we are committed to building a talent development programme that truly reflects the needs of its talent, right now. So, we are hosting a series of discipline specific, roundtable events for artists who make theatre. We want to listen to your experiences, needs, and ideas for the future. Your recommendations will inform our RECOVER programme – Northern Stage’s Talent Development programme in 2022 – and our future Talent Development strategy focused on utilising what makes Northern Stage special in the North East to develop closer and deeper relationships with artists. If you are an independent practitioner working in the North East as a Director, Lighting Designer, Actor, Writer, Sound Designer, Stage Manager, Composer, Designer, Producer, Technician, Movement Director, or Theatre Maker, we want to hear from you. The Event The events will take place at Northern Stage on the specified dates and times below. It will be hosted by our Artistic Director, Natalie Ibu and facilitated by freelance Actor and Director, Karen Traynor. Each session will be 3 hours long with a short comfort break - refreshments will be provided. Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Covid safety regulations will be in place and we will be respecting social distancing throughout the session. Please come prepared with your own mask and mug! If, for whatever reason, you are unable to join the event in person, we are holding a Zoom session which will host participants from across all disciplines. Finally, the session is interactive so come prepared to get stuck in. It is essential that these sessions are not just representative but also intersectional so we’ll use your data to ensure each roundtable has a diversity of voices and experiences. APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED Applicants will be informed of selection at least two weeks prior the their discipline’s event i.e. Sound Designers and Composers will hear by 8th June and so on. We are offering each unsalaried freelance practitioner £45 for their contribution to the 3-hour session. Access Provisions We are committed to making these events fully accessible. All sessions will take place in a wheelchair accessible space. Please let us know in your application form if you have any specific requirements, such as: A BSL Interpreter Closed captioning for the Zoom session Correspondence in a particular format and provided ahead of time A visit to the venue ahead of your session to familiarise yourself with the space Access to a quiet space during the session We are always looking for ways to improve our accessibility across the organisation so please don’t hesitate to let us know of any other specific requirements that would make your visit as comfortable as possible and we will do our best to meet them.
