Programming Policy As well as our own in-house productions, Northern Stage presents work from visiting companies and artists throughout the year. When programming, we think in calendar years (January-December) which are divided into Spring and Autumn seasons. The Artistic Team identify a central question or gesture to guide our choices, as well as a commitment to a programme that celebrates difference and meets audiences with a diversity of tastes, interests and experiences. In 2021, This Is Us: a year devoted to telling the story of us – in England, in the North East, at Northern Stage - reminding us who we are after a year of isolation and separation. In 2022, title to be confirmed: a year long programme devoted to holding space for the things that matter to you. In the first instance, please send us as much information as possible about your show (tour packs, technical riders and trailers). The programming team meets regularly to carefully consider all submissions. When making decisions, we have to balance a variety of criteria and objectives as well as Northern Stage’s core values; Innovative, Inclusive, Collaborative, Daring, International and Resilient. We are also particularly keen to programme work made in the North East by local artists and companies. All spaces are programmed on a rolling basis. If you have a show you would like to put forward for consideration by the programming team, please email [email protected] We have three spaces in which we programme work: Stage 1 – 447 seats with a 16.8m wide x 10.19m deep stage Stage 2 – 160 seats with a 12m wide x 9m deep stage Stage 3 – 100 seats* / 140 standing with a 6m wide x 3m deep stage *Stage 3 does not have fixed seating and can therefore be set up in different configurations and/or for different capacities.
