SUN 4 JUNE, 1-4pm
Tickets: This is a free, but ticketed event.
According to John F Kennedy “politics is too important to be left to the politicians”.
That’s why Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service is organising an Alternative Hustings on Sunday 4 June, 1pm to 4pm at Northern Stage.
We’ve asked more than 700 voluntary organisations and community groups to tell us what they think the most important issues are for the people we work with and local communities in Newcastle and Gateshead.
The top four issues form the basis of four workshops sessions that will be led by experts in those fields. We will be asking candidates from the main political parties in Newcastle and Gateshead to participate in the workshops which will come up with questions.
The second part of the event will be an opportunity to put these questions to the candidates in a hustings with Alison Whalley (Green Party), Chi Onwurah (Labour Party), Frank Hindle (Liberal Democrats) and Simon Kitchen (Conservative Party).
The four workshop sessions are:
- Mental health
- Inequalities and welfare reforms
- Employment and work
- Young people
Please select in advance of the event the workshop you would like to join (in order of preference), at: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/vcsge2017hustings
- Registration - 1.00pm
- Workshop sessions - 1.10pm to 2.30pm
- Break - 2.30pm to 2.45pm
- Hustings - 2.45pm to 4.00pm
If you think political campaigning is becoming increasingly managed, this is an opportunity to engage directly with candidates asking for your vote and to ensure they understand the issues that voluntary and community organisations are dealing with every day.
