Volunteer at Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Volunteer at Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Would you like to volunteer in Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival?

For the sixth year running Northern Stage is taking over a venue in the beautiful Summerhall, at the heart of the Edinburgh Festival to programme it with work from the North of England. We will be open from 10am – 11pm every day with approximately 170 performances across the three weeks of the festival.

We now need to recruit Technical and Front of House/Marketing volunteers to help us deliver the programme of brilliant theatre.

We don’t just want to find people who can do it, but the people who really want to, and who will benefit from the experience. It is certainly going to be hard work, but we also know that it is going to be a lot of fun! An interest and passion for theatre is essential and beyond that the key attributes we will be looking for are energy, resourcefulness, enthusiasm and the ability to be flexible and work hard.

All volunteers need to be available for the full period of the festival: 30 July - 27 Aug 2017.

Why should you volunteer?

Aside from just being in Edinburgh during the festival, there are some very real
benefits to taking part for people interested in forging a career in theatre:

• Extensive training with our experienced staff

• Real work experience that, when possible, is tailored to your interests and skills

• A chance to see A TON of shows and extend your theatrical vocabulary

• Networking opportunities (formal and informal)

• The chance to see how a venue operates across many departments; insiders’ view

• Professional credit on your CV

• References and contact details to use after the festival in your future career

"I meant to get in touch earlier but ended up with a job as stage manager and ended up on tour (no sooner after Edinburgh).
I'll also add a thanks as if it wasn't for Northern Stage, and the experience in Edinburgh, I would have never have got the job.” Technical Volunteer

"I wanted to see how a venue works at the Edinburgh Festival and to have the opportunity to see as many shows as possible and meet lots of creative people. It exceeded my expectations in its entirety." Front of House Volunteer

All volunteers must be over 18. We anticipate that this opportunity is best suited to young artists, students and creatives, and the nature of the offer (including shared rooms) is probably most appealing to the under 25 age bracket, but we are not prescriptive about this. This is a professional development opportunity. Further information about the Northern Stage programme will be announced in the coming months.
