We are very excited to announce the creative team that are joining director Samuel West on our co-production of Close The Coalhouse Door.
Playwright Lee Hall will be writing additional material for Alan Plater’s 1963 script. We can’t tell you too much yet, but we’re very pleased Lee has come on board. His production of The Pitmen Painters has just transferred to the West End, Billy Elliott is still going strong both in this country and internationally and he has just co-written the screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of War Horse.
Soutra Gilmour will be designing. Soutra has designed many of Northern Stage’s past productions including A Doll’s House, Our Friends in the North, Ruby Moon and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
Sam Kenyon will be musical director on the show. Sam arranged the music for our 2010 production of Oh What A Lovely War and composed the music for last year’s Christmas show The Glass Slipper.
James Farncombe is joining as Lighting Designer. You may have seen James’ work at Northern Stage before; he designed lighting for our co-production of Twisted Tales and was responsible for the spectacular designs of Gecko’s The Overcoat.
All four are joining our director Samuel West. Samuel is currently appearing on TV in ITV1’s Eternal Law. He has directed many productions, most notably Dealer’s Choice and Waste.
