Thumbelina
A new adaptation by Susan Mulholland
Directed by Annie Rigby
Designed by Andrew Stephenson

“There once was a little girl called Thumbelina who was no bigger than a thumb…”

Thumbelina measures her height every day. She is just 4 1/2cm tall. At night she sleeps in a polished walnut-shell with a rose-leaf for a cover. By day she plays in a tulip-leaf boat with oars made of white horse-hair. Thumbelina desperately wants to be big enough to go on an adventure. Soon she will learn to be careful what she wishes for…

Her journey takes her away from home to some strange new places. Along the way she meets some very unusual characters. Have you ever met a singing toad, or a fussy fieldmouse? Or a story-telling swallow?

Thumbelina will face unwanted proposals of marriage, huge snowflakes and singing competitions. Our tiny heroine will discover that being bigger isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Join us this Christmas for a beautiful show full of music and fun - reminding us all not to grow up too quickly.

"A little gem that enthrals its young audience and even throws in a few gags for the adults."

"The cast of four excels itself with this 60-minute Christmas show, proving the nicest things come in small packages and big is not always beautiful."
