The Crick Crack ClubLove and Death: Performance StorytellingPerformed by Sally Pomme Clayton
Provoking, seductive and a virgin, the Queen of Sheba visits King Solomon to test his wisdom. Riddles and tricks, desire and foolishness ensue as they unravel each others' histories. In a vibrant and dynamic performance, Sally Pomme Clayton snips and clips stories of this royal duo from Hebrew, Christian and Islamic traditions, and from Middle Eastern apocrypha. While Solomon seduces Sheba, loses his wisdom and his throne, Sheba's ancestory is traced back to Adam's first wife Lilith, and forward to Mother Goose, until the secret of her virginity is finally revealed. This stunningly composed performance mixes the sacred with the profane, the raunchy with the poetic, and the biblical with the folkloric, as Sally Pomme conjures up these archetypal figures and their little known tales.
"She delights in subverting her audiences' expectations... subtly tweaking and twisting the stories to suit their demands." The Independent
