When an African General working for the Venetian State and a Senator’s daughter fall in love, they marry secretly knowing their union will not be approved of. Their love should signal a celebration of difference, the triumph of love over prejudice and intolerance. Instead it is destroyed.

Following previous seasons and the acclaimed Noughts & Crosses in February, the RSC returns to Northern Stage with Shakespeare's tale of jealousy and revenge; urgent, gripping, radical and beautiful.
