Northern Stage's Autumn 08 ProductionAngela Carter'sThe Bloody ChamberAdpated by Bryony LaveryDirected and designed by Neil MurrayChoreography by Liv Lorent
Northern Stage brings to thrilling life Angela Carter’s tale of seduction, perversion, blood and love in a shockingly beautiful portrait of the corruption of adolescence…She is a seventeen year old virgin. She’s poor. The marquis is 50 and rich beyond imagining. He marries her and takes her to his castle, half on land, half on sea. It’s like a fairy tale! The honeymoon has hardly begun before he must leave her with his keys and this instruction:“All is yours, everywhere is open to you –except the lock that this single key fits. You must promise , if you love me, to leave it well alone”An award-wielding trio of Neil Murray (who most recently designed Kneehigh's Brief Encounter and Northern Stage's A Christmas Carol), playwright Bryony Lavery (Frozen, Red Sky) and choreographer Liv Lorent (Angelmoth, Designer Body) have collaborated to produce a tense, visceral and visually stunning production that incorporates film, music and live action.
