Newcastle University Theatre Society
Translations

Following the success of its sell-out run of Macbeth, Newcastle University Theatre Society returns to Northern Stage with an intimate production of Brian Friel's influential play Translations.

A tale of miscommunication and national identity within nineteenth century Ireland, Friel's play centres on the insular community of Baile Beag and its impassioned resistance of English colonialism.

Originally premiered in 1980, Translations is now widely studied, and regarded by many as one of the most important plays to have come out of Ireland during the twentieth century. A play about love, language and national pride, Brian Friel's Translations is not to be missed.
