Molora

3 June 2008 - 7 June, 2008

Drama

Oxford Playhouse presents
The Farber Foundry Production

Molora
Based on the Oresteia Trilogy
Adapted by Yael Farber

“What is guilt?
What is memory?
What is pain?
Things that wake me in the night.
By day I stand by what I have done –
But at night I dream…
”

In a South African hall, gathered to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Klytemnestra and Elektra, mother and daughter, perpetrator and victim, face one another in an attempt to come to terms with their violent past.

South African director Yael Farber explores the extraordinary experience of apartheid and its legacy through the Greek tragedy of the Oresteia, with haunting live singing from the chorus of Xhosa tribeswomen.

"Raw and unflinching, even as it horrifies, it demands attention ... This is art from the gut. I cannot recommend it highly enough." ***** THE TIMES (read the full review)

"Molora is intensely powerful, hypnotic and truly engaging." THE NEW BLACK MAGAZINE

"Thrilling, gripping...compelling drama. It should not be missed" OXFORD TIMES
