Dance

Phoenix Dance Theatre
Cattle Call
noun, informal
1. The farming practice of herding and holding livestock in one area prior to slaughter.
2. An open audition for inexperienced actors, dancers and singers.

"stop dancing, dance monkey"

A gaggle of scantily-dressed dance graduates in leotards clamber over each other for a microphone; the Chippendale wannabe flexes his tan-streaked buttocks in the other guy’s face; two cleavage-wielding sopranos compete with their lungs then their fists…

Welcome to the world of open auditions, known in the industry as Cattle Calls.  Imagine an obscene I'd Do Anything meets a fisticuffs version of A Chorus Line and you’re not even close, in the most hilarious brawl in leg-warmers we’ve ever seen.

"Hilariously ruthless new musical about showbiz ... This hugely entertaining show will be a classic"  DAILY TELEGRAPH (read the full review)

"A lot of fun – satirical, sarcastic and rude"  THE GUARDIAN
Dancing the World 08 is part of NewcastleGateshead's world-class festivals and events programme.
