Uncle Vanya

Drama

EVENING PERFORMANCES ALMOST SOLD OUT
MATINEE PERFORMANCES AVAILABLE

Unfortunately, during a performance of Uncle Vanya on Saturday (15 March) Nicholas Le Prevost fell and broke his leg.  He is in remarkably good spirits despite the accident, but is clearly unable to perform.  His part will be played by Mark Extance who has been playing Yefim and therefore knows the part extremely well.  Mark's role will be understudied by Richard Barnes.

English Touring Theatre presents
Uncle Vanya

By Anton Chekhov
New translation by Stephen Mulrine

On a country estate in a small Russian village in the late nineteenth century, the arrival of an aging professor and his young wife throw the residents lives into disarray. Sir Peter Hall directs Nicholas Le Prevost, Ronald Pickup and Neil Pearson in Chekhov’s classic tale of desperate longing, unrequited love and bitter frustration.

Comic, touching and rich in language and emotion, Uncle Vanya is a passionate exploration of love, desire and loss.

Peter Hall is one of Britain’s most distinguished director of plays, films and operas. He founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and was subsequently Director of the Royal Theatre. His many arts awards and nominations include two Tony Awards and an Olivier Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Neil Pearson is well known for his television roles in Drop the Dead Donkey, Between the Lines and the comedy series, The Booze Cruise. His stage work includes the Olivier Award-winning Closer, Cloaca at the Old Vic, Old Times and Taking Sides.  Nicholas le Prevost’s many TV appearances include The Camomile Lawn (directed by Peter Hall), Life Begins and Absolute Power. Most recently he starred in the Peter Hall Company production of How the Other Half Loves. The star cast also includes Ronald Pickup, remembered for such landmark films as Zulu Dawn, The Thirty Nine Steps, Ivanhoe and The Fourth Protocol.

"English Touring Theatre is one of our treasures." The Guardian
