Waygood @ Northern Stage: Urbanscapes by Kit Kingsbury
Urbanscapes by Kit Kingsbury Waygood @ Northern Stage
Exhibition runs Friday 20 November 2009 – Saturday 09 January 2010 Reception: 6-8pm Tuesday 24 November 2009
Urbanscapes features a collection of paintings created by emerging British artist Kit Kingsbury including a new series of small-scale works inspired via a recent six-month residency in Japan and funded by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Arts Council England.
The paintings attempt to query the viewer’s perception of reality. Based on the Structuralist premise that one’s concept of reality is conjured up from an incomprehensible sum of stimuli, the works employ an array of indistinct and obscure motifs drawn from photographic negatives of urban environments the artist has known and lived. The paintings are oil on board and are for sale £195 - £245 each.
Kit Kingsbury has a studio at Waygood. Waygood is running a series of exhibitions selected by Northern Stage in their sponsors room, while it awaits the completion of its city centre cultural venue. See www.waygood.org for more details.
