Waygood @ Northern Stage: Urbanscapes by Kit Kingsbury

Urbanscapes by Kit Kingsbury
Waygood @ Northern Stage
Exhibition runs Friday 20 November 2009 – S
aturday 09 January 2010 Reception: 6-8pm Tuesday 24 November 2009

Urbanscapes features a collection of paintings created by emerging British artist Kit Kingsbury including a new series of small-scale works inspired via a recent six-month residency in Japan and funded by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Arts Council England.

The paintings attempt to query the viewer’s perception of reality. Based on the Structuralist premise that one’s concept of reality is conjured up from an incomprehensible sum of stimuli, the works employ an array of indistinct and obscure motifs drawn from photographic negatives of urban environments the artist has known and lived. The paintings are oil on board and are for sale £195 - £245 each.

Kit Kingsbury has a studio at Waygood. Waygood is running a series of exhibitions selected by Northern Stage in their sponsors room, while it awaits the completion of its city centre cultural venue. See www.waygood.org for more details.

Northern Stage Annual Dinner - join the celebrations!

We are now selling tables and individual seats for our 40th Birthday Annual Dinner on Wednesday 10 February 2010.

In recent years we have gained a reputation for hosting thrilling theatrical evenings, transforming our stages into unusual ‘one night only’ dining spaces. Our next Dinner promises to be an extra special occasion, as we will be celebrating 40 years of producing and presenting world class theatre in the heart of Newcastle. Guests will include senior representatives from the business community and civic leaders, as well as popular figures from theatre, film and television.

The Annual Dinner is our biggest fundraising event of the year and supports our ambitious programme of master classes, workshops and participation projects, which every year offers thousands of children and young people a memorable introduction to the magic of the theatre.

Individual seats cost £85 + VAT and tables of ten £800 plus VAT, including a three course menu with wine and entertainment.

For further information and to guarantee your place at this very special event please contact Jane Hall, Development Manager on 0191 242 7224 or email jhall@northernstage.co.uk.
