Mega Blok Paintings (Waygood @ Northern Stage)
Coming to Northern Stage in June is the Mega Blok Paintings exhibition from James Johnson-Perkins, as part of the Waygood Art Boutique @ Northern Stage.
Mega bloks are large building blocks which come in a range of beautiful primary plastic colours. These Mega Blok paintings draw heavily on the modernist precedents and principles of Structuralism and Minimalism, sharing links in style to the works of Kandinski, Malevich and Mondrian.
James Johnson-Perkins is known for his artworks inspired by '80s nostalgia, often using Lego, '80s TV programmes and computer games as his inspiration.
Especially and only for the reception event, the artist will build a den-like structure in the space using tables, chairs, sheets and pegs, which will be both child and adult friendly.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 20 June until Saturday 1 August 2009.
