Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Picnic

Ceremonial Way, Friday 18th July 12.30-2pm

Northern Stage and Newcastle City Council will be hosting a lunchtime event at Ceremonial Way, Civic Centre in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday and we would be delighted if you could join us for an afternoon picnic party of music, dance and cake!

There will be performances from North East based group, AMABUTHO who will be adding their own touch of South Africa to the afternoon with gum-boot dancing and a drumming set. There will be more music in the form of North East group MOUTHFUL who will be performing a selection of songs. We also have the pleasure of introducing AMANDLA ESANDLA, a performance group from the Eastern Cape of South Africa who will be with us on the day to celebrate and lead us in a very special Xhosa version of Happy Birthday!

You’re invited to bring your lunch over to the Civic Centre to join the picnic from 12.30pm and enjoy the entertainment. Please feel free to tell friends, family and colleagues – the more the merrier to celebrate this inspirational man’s birthday!

See you there!
