Northern Stage are running their successful Family Open Day again this year. Our doors will be flung open to grandparents, parents and children! There will be something for everyone - activities for under sixes and their families as well as opportunities for young people and adults to get invovled with drama workshops and behind the scenes introductions to the theatre.Taking its theme from our two Christmas shows - The Goblin who saved Christmas for under sixes and Hansel & Gretel for all the family - Family Open Day is sure to get you in the Christmas mood.
This year we need you to help us decorate the theatre!
Come along on the 1st of November and get sticky making salt dough Goblin Christmas decorations to be hung on the tree and gingerbread houses to be displayed in the theatre over the festive season. Record you very own Christmas wish to help Max the Goblin save Christmas and make your very own Margaret the Fairy to take away with you. Don't miss the face painting and dressing up too!Join a backstage tour and have a go at performing on one of the widest stages in the country, try your hand at lighting and sound, discover the less visited parts of the theatre and meet professional actors. Try out a drama workshop with the Directors of our Christmas shows, Erica Whyman and Mark Calvert, or simply come along and have lunch in our restaurant - there's a kids menu.
You will also be able to purchase your very own copy of The Goblin Who Saved Christmas - The Book. Specially commissioned by Northern Stage the book is written by Susan Mulholland - the writer of this year's orignial Christmas story - and features original illustrations by John Disley - the man behind all the fantastic publicity material. You can see a taster of his artwork in the windows. The book is perfect to meet the characters and learn the story before coming to see the show and makes a perfect stocking-filler! They will be available from Box Office for just £3.50 on the day.
